The simplicity of nature is a constant source of inspiration for Michael’s paintings, capturing the shifting light , tumbling clouds, crumbling rocks on rolling hills, a crashing wave and the tranquillity of open spaces.
Michael’s aim is to capture the essence of distant view, capturing the way light interacts with the landscape and nature.
The Peak District is often reflected in Michael’s work as he regularly goes walking there, taking as much in as possible of the ever changing landscape.Travelling around UK coastline is also a great love and inspiration.
Michael likes to work from memory, this gives him more freedom and expression and the ability to work using bold open brush stokes alongside palette knife mark making achieving rich textured paintings and creating more energy and emotion.
